What is Entertaiment?

Article about Entertaiment

From the clown at your child’s birthday party, to Broadway shows and stadium rock concerts, entertainment is what gives us pleasure or diversion. It comes from the old French entretenir meaning “to hold inside,” which was associated with hospitality and keeping guests happy. From there it became an amusement or distraction, and it has become a ubiquitous part of our culture. We talk of theatrical entertainment as a show, visual entertainment as things we like to look at and audio entertainment as music. See similar words in our Dictionary of Synonyms.
